theladysnarkydame: (Frank's legs!)
The new year always swings out of the old year SO FAST.  And then, of course, in less than six weeks I'll be thirty, so I have an inkling that January is going to feel rushed as hell.

Anyways, in a transition that is so shoddy my old professors would roll their eyes:  I wrote two Yuletide fics!

Gloves, and Other Sheddable Skins, is a short character study on Bester from Babylon 5.  I think it works for what it is?  And the recipient said nice things.  But I think I might try to write her something for a New Year's Resolution fic, because it is JUST BARELY over 1000 words, and there is, like, no plot.  At all.

And then, in the grand tradition of Yuletide, I picked up a pinch hit  -- Dream of Drowning, and Wake in Snow, for CJ Cherryh's Rusalka stories.  Which was mostly hard to write because it'd been years since I read them!  And my library said they had two of them, but I could only find one.  And it was the third one, which wasn't all that helpful.  I finally found an epub version with a working link, though, so I was saved!  This is the second Cherryh fandom I've written for Yuletide -- I think next year I'll try to find another one.  They're loads of fun.  <3

My gift was written by the talented coricomile -- I liked it even better the second time I read it, and I liked it a lot to begin with!

At any rate, I'm going to try to catch up on fic comments and fic archiving over the next week or so, and then get back to writing my three long WIPs.  Also, since the bandomstuffsit fic reveals haven't happened yet, I'll write something for anybody who guesses which fic was mine!  Or maybe I'll make them a mix for the story of their choice, that could be fun.

I don't generally do the Yuletide Recs thing -- not formally, anyway, with a post and stuff.  I like to take a more leisurely approach to the archive.  But it opened really early!  And I got to read a few stories before I went to bed.

I know a few people who will absolutely love these!

My own gift is pretty great, guys -- anybody remember the Adventures of Pete & Pete?  Anybody wonder what the boys would do in the aftermath of an apocalyptic event?   There's some fantastically drawn brotherly bonds here, I recommend it --- take my name

I've asked for Tower at Stony Wood fic almost every year, I think, and haven't got it -- but this fic soothes the pain!  It's really beautifully written, very much as McKillip would have done it herself, I think -- The Selkie's Daughter

And you've all read the Books of the Raksura, right?  By Martha Wells?  (you haven't?  What is wrong with you?)  Anyway, here's a wonderful, Chime-centric fic full of painfully true emotional resonance and snarky bonds of love and friendship -- Children of the New Court

With this just from the first few hours of the archive opening, I'm really looking forward to reading through the rest this year!  (looks like there's five Skyrim fics -- they're up next!)
