I got offline early yesterday as I didn't want to see the Celeb Traitors spoilers. The finale was mistakenly shown a day early in Canada, so it would have been all too easy to unwillingly see the outcome. As it was, I was glad I did go in unspoiled. cut for spoilers )

I've really enjoyed watching the show, and while it was frustrating waiting a week between some episodes, doing so kept people talking, and I liked that.

Today I've been for a walk to one pharmacist to pick up Kayleigh's script, and then to another to get James'. While there's no bright sunshine, it's still mild so it was nice to walk through the falling leaves and get some fresh air.

I also talked to Pauline, who phoned asking if we wanted to meet up next Wednesday for a lunch out to celebrate James' birthday. Now, that's not until the 1st, so yet again she's arranging stuff really early. But hey, he's off that day and I guess there's no reason not to celebrate that early.

Tomorrow, for the first time in a few weekends, we don't have any craft fairs so we're off to the cinema. I don't even know what to see yet, but something. I may even buy myself my first Christmas Costa of the season. I quite fancy a gingerbread latte with a tiny gingerbread man balanced on top.

Call for Volunteers 2026

[personal profile] tjs_whatnot posting in [community profile] snowflake_challenge

It’s coming up at that time of the year again and we wanted to let you know that the Fandom Snowflake Challenge will be happening again in January. We are very excited about hosting another round! To make the upcoming round as awesome as it can possibly be we are looking for volunteers to help us out! Here are the details on what the requirements and expectations of volunteer mods are for you to consider.

Requirements and Expectation of Volunteer Mods

General Volunteer Requirements:

All volunteers will have the opportunity to help us mold the challenges by helping come up with what challenges we offer and when we offer them.

Volunteers must be willing to interact with a lot of people who have different interests and levels than you and some of them, you might be the only interaction they receive. You must be able to offer support and encouragement or alert other mods to the need.

We have 4 levels of involvement that can fit most people's availability.

1) Poster and First Comment Responder

2) Comment Responder

3) Other Site Organizer

4) Graphics

Poster: We have 19 posts scheduled (15 challenges, one introduction, one meet the mods, one wrap up post and the friending meme.) You can sign up for only one if you'd like, or more if you're able.

Responsibility of  Poster: create the post using the template provided. Seek feedback if you'd like. Post into the community, and then notify us in the mod community so we all know it's there.  Then you are the first responder to that post. You don't have to answer every comment or read every post after. But you'll be the one getting the notifications as the challenge progresses so you'll have the sole responsibility of cheering on the stragglers.

Second Responder, Third and (hopefully) Fourth Responder Responsibilities

✔️Help poster respond to comments on the community post (we get an average of 150 participants per challenge)

✔️Take turns commenting on each post of our participants.

✔️Communicate with other volunteers throughout the month.

Other Site Organizers Requirements

We need volunteers familiar with other fandom spaces that aren't Dreamwidth if we want to have a presence in these spaces. This will require adapt each Dreamwidth post to making a post on your site, which may include fixing links, removing or altering HTML, sharing a small quote and linking to the Dreamwidth post, tagging appropriately, and/or removing or altering images to your site's specifications. You should be prepared to post the above 19 posts listed under Dreamwidth Poster and you should also be prepared to make additional posts as needed on your site to share any applicable graphics, share your site specific tags, or otherwise interact with your site participants.

Depending on your site, you may need to keep track of a tag, reply to comments on your post, keep track of reblogs, keep track of direct messages, or otherwise monitor your site for participant entries. You need to interact with participant entries in some way, such as commenting, reblogging, Liking, or whatever is possible on your site. Ideally, each site should have an additional volunteer (or volunteers) to help with posting and commenting on your site which might involve creating site specific templates, communicating outside of the Dreamwidth mods community, and other mod duties (like answering asks, checking an inbox, or maintaining a community.

Graphics:

We'd love to have someone with graphic abilities to help us create some banners and icons. Only requirement other than making awesome pretties is to supply the coding needed to post it.

It really is a lot of fun, made more so by the inclusion to as many people from as many fandoms and spaces as possible.

“Hey, are you truly awake or am I talking to a zombie?” Shuu couldn’t help but ask as Touma swagged before grabbing a mug.

“Huuuuh,” Touma groaned, pouring himself a cup of ‘English Breakfast Tea’ Shin had insisted they all had to try at least once.

Or, a friendly moment between Shuu and Touma in between battles.

I saw No Strings Attached advertised earlier. It's a show where puppets act out fanfics based on celebs, and those celebs voice their own dialogue. Not going to lie, I about turned myself inside out with embarrassment thinking about it. Just, no.

Pauline phoned yesterday asking about our Christmas dinner. She wants to get it booked, and apparently she's going to be busy in December, so suggested booking for a Saturday in November, including this Saturday coming. Now, while the festive menu would be started then I think the 8th is far too soon for our Christmas meet up, so I'm going to push for the last Sat in November instead. She also still wants to go to the restaurant that gave her and James food poisoning, as she said, it's usually lovely there, and it was only a minor poisoning. Well, that's okay then…

Talking about Christmas, it seems to be everywhere now, and John Lewis dropped their Christmas ad today. Why so early, I don't know, so now I'm expecting a deluge of Christmas ads soon. It's an interesting ad, I get what they were going for, and the sentiment does land, just there was a section in the middle that led me to believe it was about to get really bleak. Then things change, and wham, right in the feels. I suspect many dad's with older sons will relate.

Rewatching Babylon 5's "Ship of Tears" and (parts of) "War Without End" was definitely not conducive to ending up in the most cheerful frame of mind this evening. It's so good, though.

Something I noticed in Ship of Tears )

[community profile] trickortreatex and [community profile] fandomgiftbasket both revealed this weekend. I have gifts to coo over!

Trick or Treat:

Beware of Gurathin Bearing Gifts (Murderbot, gen, 580 wds)
Fun and playful with some nice little cultural details, and a tantalizing hint of a future mission to come.

Fandom Giftbasket:

Jala, Tujula, and Fraught Understanding by [archiveofourown.org profile] pushkin666 (Babylon 5, Londo & G'Kar, 700 wds)
This is lovely, a possibly-late-in-series vignette with a little bit of cultural exchange (via food/drink) and a little hard-won wisdom/acceptance.

Keepsake by [archiveofourown.org profile] opalmatrix (Murderbot, gen, 3200 wds)
A really enjoyable, very slightly AU slice-of-life on Port FreeCommerce in which Ratthi takes MB shopping for the first time. Great in-character interactions and a lovely ending!

Zayd & Marwan by [archiveofourown.org profile] celli (Murderbot, gen, 750 wds)
Murderbot, Mensah's kids, and cats. Cute and fun!

We've done two craft fairs this weekend. They went well, and thankfully, were at the same venue so we could leave our stall set up overnight. But even so, it was a lot of being on, socialising and chatting, plus of course, the setting up and breaking down each end. Saying that I enjoyed both days, the venue was lovely, a small community centre, and the coffee only 50p so I was well caffeinated.

Yesterday James was chatting to a man about why he called his business PyroRex, and hearing it was because James always refers to himself as a t-Rex due to his arm positioning, said he had a t-Rex costume that James could have if he wanted it-- and of course he did. The man went home, brought back the costume, and then this happened this morning )

On Friday the emergency vet phoned to say they'd finally had the results back from Murphy's urine cultures, and they thought the antibiotics that they'd given him may be ineffective against the UTI strain he had. But, because he's okay in himself they said to take a sample in to our own vets, they'd check it and give different antibiotics if needed.

Because this was Friday afternoon, our own vet was closing in hours and there was no way to get the sample in and tested before they shut for the weekend. So, James called in to get the sample collecting sand kit, on his way home from work and they said to get the sample and take it in Monday.

I was expecting that to be a nightmare, but amazingly, almost as soon as I put the sand in a clean litter box Murphy used it, and the sample is in the fridge ready to be dropped off tomorrow. Which is a huge relief, now, fingers crossed the sample comes back infection free and I can start to relax about more stones. And I don't have to write sample ever again!

[community profile] mini_wrimo is going on again. I'm not taking part but sign ups will be on for a few days yet if you want to take part in a very low pressure write every day challenge.

I was thrilled to see Layton had turned up to watch Nikita dance on Strictly last night. And to watch the others too I'm sure, but you know, I'm still holding onto my Lakita love. It's been forever since I shared dances I love from the show, but man, I enjoyed Katya and Lewis' couple's choice so much.
