theladysnarkydame: (special snowflake!)
So, the wedding/engagement rings fit (the sizer thingy was pretty cool -- she just slid the ring on this cone and hammered at it -- gently! -- until it stretched to fit, and it kept getting stuck on the sizer, and my knuckle got sorer and sorer from trying it on, but hey, the ring fits now!) and I really love mine.  :D  The stone is a little loose -- it was the first time she'd worked on this sort of setting, and she didn't want to shatter it -- so I'll probably need to go to a jeweler and have them tighten it down a bit, but I'm not worried about it.  One of the benefits of preferring garnets to diamonds!

We've set a date -- September 1st.  We're still working out details, but it will probably be: wedding at the courthouse, parents only, then a family dinner.  Next day, party! Hopefully at FMIL's yard, though there's some reasonably inexpensive venues around town I've got my eye on.   Shoestring budget -- my parents say they can help out a bit, but I don't want to burden them overmuch.  And I won't be done paying off my loan until right AFTER the wedding!

Luckily, neither of us stand on ceremony.  I picked up a padlock, and FMIL says she can engrave our initials on it, so we'll lock that into the fence by the river and throw the keys in the water.  :D And my ideas for party decorations tend more towards paper lanterns and homemade cupcakes than fancy silver and professional cakes.  Still, I need to keep reminding myself that we have five months!  Not everything needs to be planned out right away! (which, I know, goes against common wedding theory, but seriously, we're keeping this as casual as we can.)

In the meantime, I've gotten pretty deep into Dragon Age: Inquisition, and I've got an itch to finish Dark Souls before I start Bloodborne (so plenty of long video games to sink my teeth into!).  Work is going well, and Boy is being great, as usual.  Pico cat's asthma seems more under control, and Sanji cat has stopped losing weight, so those worries are alleviated.

And then there's this stupid ebooks-tree kerfluffle:  if you haven't already, you might check here  to see if your Ao3 name pulls anything up.  The site's bots scraped a BUNCH of fic off of AO3 (including at least 7 of mine) and are hosting them for download (behind a registration wall that apparently requires a credit card?  Shady as shit).  I sent them a takedown request, but I'm not confident it'll do anything.  The OTW is working on combating them, and will probably announce steps at some point.

Besides that weirdness though, everything is coming up aces!  How are you?
